Character Analysis: Miles Morales

Background

At the age of 13, Miles Morales was bitten by a genetically enhanced spider that granted him superhuman strength, speed, and abilities. At first, Miles was reluctant and refused to use his new spider powers until the day his universe's Peter Parker was killed in a fight with the Green Goblin. Feeling as if he could've prevented Peter's death by aiding him in that battle, Miles filled Peter's shoes and took on the mantle as Spider-Man.

Equipment

Web Shooters
A pair of wrist-mounted devices Miles uses to shoot web-like substances, usually to swing from buildings or to trap his foes. While it had been shown that Miles' webbing can be conductive with a high enough charge of electricity, it appears to be somewhat insulate against weaker shocks, as seen when Ultimate Peter webbed up his hands to punch Ultimate Electro (Ultimate Spider-Man 2000 #114)

Visor
In the 2017 Spider-Man cartoon, Miles' visor can detect other heat sources and use them to zoom in on others (Episode 10).

Hacking App
In the PS4 Spider-Man game, Miles can use his phone to hack into other electronics Watch_Dogs style. With the app, Miles can hack into machines, military drones, etc.

Abilities

Wall Crawling
By manipulating the inter-atomic bonds of matter between him and another object, Miles can adhere himself to nearly any surface. While Miles has never displayed this, the wall crawling can be used as an offensive ability in combat.

Spider-Sense
A buzzing sensation in Miles' head that alerts him of upcoming danger. The Spider-Sense can also warn Miles of a person's intent to kill him and even pinpoint which version of someone is from the past and future (All-New, All Different Avengers #6)

Invisibility
The ability to camouflage within his surroundings, essentially giving him invisibility. While invisible, even Peter Parker is unable to detect Miles despite his Spider-Sense, though it could be argued that Peter's sense didn't go off because he wasn't in danger) (Spider-Men #2)

Bio-Electricity Manipulation
Miles possesses the ability to manipulate and weaponize the natural flow of electricity his body produces. With this ability, Miles can electrocute others, transmit electricity through other conductors, create explosions of electricity, and create a form of bio-electric webbing. Miles electricity is powerful enough to overload Electro, someone highly resistant to electricity.

Oz Formula
A formula developed by Norman Osborn. Not only does this formula grant Miles his superhuman attributes and abilities, but it also gave him a minor healing factor and limited immortality. The Oz formula eventually resurrected Peter Parker from the dead.

    Character Analysis: Sasuke Uchiha

    Background

Sasuke was first introduced in Chapter 3 of the Naruto manga. As a child, Sasuke adored his older brother Itachi, a natural prodigy, and always found the opportunity to spend time with him. Although Itachi welcomed Sasuke's company, he never helped Sasuke become a better shinobi, so Sasuke joined the Konoha Ninja Academy and quickly stood among his peers. Despite his natural talent, Sasuke could never achieve the same milestones set by his brother, which  resulted in his father paying little attention to him.

One day, after an intense day of training, Sasuke returned home to find that his entire clan and family were slaughtered by Itachi. Although Itachi's true intentions were for Sasuke's benefit, Sasuke made it is personal mission to grow strong enough to kill Itachi and avenge his fallen clan.

    Weapons and Equipment

    Kunai: Versatile combat knives.

Fuma Shuriken: A giant, four-bladed shuriken.

Wires: Barely visible wires used for maneuvering self and thrown weapons.

Kusanagi Blade: A three foot long straight sword.

    Abilities

    Ninjutsu
Literally meaning "Ninja Techniques," Ninjutsu is a general term that refers to most of the techniques used by a ninja. Ninjutsu can be created by molding one's chakra into physical form, most commonly through the usage of hand seals. One way ninjutsu is often created is by using nature transformation and shape manipulation.

    Taijutsu
Literally meaning "Body Techniques," Taijutsu refers to techniques using the natural human body. Taijutsu does not require chakra. These techniques focus on the martial arts and hand to hand combat, and chakra can be used to enhance the effect of Taijutsu. Taijutsu is faster than most ninjutsu.

    Fire-Based Jutsus
Fire Ball Jutsu: A technique in which a massive orb of fire is expelled from the user's mouth. The technique can also be expelled as a flamethrower.

Phoenix Sage Fire: A technique in which the user expels a volley of small fireballs, each sent flying in an unpredictable pattern.

Dragon Fire: A technique in which the user breathes fire on a wire, which rushes towards an enemy and sets them on fire.

Great Dragon Fire: A technique in which the user creates a dragon-shaped fireball.

    Lightning-Based Jutsus
Chidori: Channels lighting into one hand to pierce through enemies.

Chidori Current: Creates an electrical discharge that electrocutes nearby enemies in all directions.

Chidori Katana: Channels his Chidori through his katana. Striking an opponent with this move tends to make their muscles go numb due to the electrical current, making it harder for them to move.

Chidori Sharp Spear: Turns the Chidori into a spear that can reach a range of 5 meters.

Chidori Senbon: Transforms the Chidori into senbon.

Kirin: Uses lightning from the clouds and controls it. Sasuke creates the thundercloud via fire jutsus.

    Genjutsus
Literally meaning "Illusionary Techniques," Genjutsu is employed the same way ninjutsu is: through chakra and hand seals. However, instead of producing a physical attack, Genjutsu attacks the victim's brain, causing a disturbance in their senses. Genjutsus are frequently used to create false images and pain.

Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique: A technique in which the victim is tortured with the sense of having spikes being driven through their bodies. More skilled users do not need eye contact to pull this off. I...think Sasuke used this against Orchimaru?

Susano'o Genjutsu: Stares into the opponent's eyes until a shadowy figure appears under a genjutsu. The genjutsu breaks the opponent's will and leaves them incapacitated.

Demonic Illusion: Mirage Crow: Projects a torrent of crows to torment the victim. The genjutsu does not require eye contact.

    Shadow Clone Jutsu
Like Naruto, Sasuke can create corporeal copies. Shadow Clones can be dispersed if struck with enough force. Sasuke has yet to show that he can create the same amount of Shadow Clones that Naruto can.

    Summoning Jutsu
A space-time ninjutsu that allows Sasuke to summon animals or other objects. Sasuke uses this jutsu to summon giant hawks and snakes.
    • Chapter 477 - Sasuke summons a hawk
    • Chapter 633 - Sasuke summons a snake

    Sharingan

The Sharingan are special eyes inherit to the Uchihas that grants Sasuke unique abilities. With it, Sasuke can see chakra in any variation, see through illusions, see invisible enemies, read muscle movement, memorize any technique witnessed as long as it's not an inherent ability, and even see the memories of others. Sasuke would later receive the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, an advanced form of the Sharingan.

    Amaterasu
Black flames that are hot enough to burn through other flames. Amaterasu is said to burn for 7 days and nights until the user ends it. Sasuke can control and shape Amaterasu. It is possible to dodge and resist Amaterasu's effects.

    Rinnegan

After receiving half of the Sage of Six Path's power, Sasuke obtained the Rinnegan, another special eye that grants Sasuke a unique set of powers. Unlike the Sharingan, the Rinnegan remains active at all times, and Sasuke can use the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and Rinnegan at the same time.

    Animal Path
A Rinnegan ability that allows the user to summon animals without the need of blood sacrifices or hand seals. With the Animal Path, Sasuke can summon the following:

    Preta Path
A Rinnegan ability that lets the user drain and absorb energy.

    Asura Path
A Rinnegan ability that lets the user augment their body via mechanized armor and weapons.
    Human Path
A Rinnegan technique in which the user places their hand on a person's head or chest to read their minds and rip their souls out of their body.

    Naraka Path
A Rinnegan technique in which the user summons the King of Hell to interrogate the victim. Those who do not respond or lie to the King of Hell will have their tongues ripped out and die. The King of Hell can also be used to repair any damage by having it ingest a damaged body.
    Deva Path
A Rinnegan technique that allows the user to manipulate gravity via pushing and pulling. This ability cannot be used in a rapid session, as it has a 5 second recharge.
    Shinra Tensei
A technique in which the user pushes all matter, objects, people, or attacks away. Using the more powerful versions of the Shinra Tensei requires the user to wait for longer recharges. The Deva Path used this technique to destroy the Leaf Village.

    Chibaku Tensei
Sasuke creates a black orb that floats upwards and attracts all matter, objects, and people towards it, creating a massive planetoid. This technique was used to create the moon.
    Amenotejikara
A technique Sasuke uses to switch places with other objects instantly within a certain range. This technique is used to dodge attacks.

    Perfect Susano'o

A gigantic, humanoid being that surrounds Sasuke, and is forged by his own chakra. Perfect Susano'o is one of the strongest defenses in all of Naruto. It can fly, shoot arrows, use gigantic variations of fire-based and chidori-based jutsus, and wields a giant sword.
    • Chapter 463 - Sasuke summons the ribcage of Susano'o
    • Chapter 579 - Susano'o's bow and arrow
    • Chapter 696 - Fires a lightning infused arrow
    • Susano'o uses Chidori (12:00) and Fireball Jutsu (10:47) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvgNY_nIWiE

    Feats

    Strength
    Speed
    • Chapter 56 - Dodges Zaku's sound-based attack while carrying Naruto and Sakura
    • Chapter 111 - Bypasses Gaara's defense
    • Chapter 358 - Outraces Deidara's explosions
    • Chapter 462 - Gets behind the lightning-fast Raikage
    Durability
    • Chapter 27 - Survived being stabbed in multiple areas by Haku's meteors. While Haku was not aiming for any vitals, Sasuke still survived not bleeding out to death
    • Chapter 47 - Manages to keep fighting after stabbing himself in the leg
    • Chapter 49 - Survived Orochimaru's hickey and endured the pain it caused
    • Chaoter 358 - Survives a massive explosion
    • Ninja Storm 4 - Susano'o withstands an explosion that can be seen from outer space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UP7fdFsVnfc&feature=youtu.be&t=401

    Scaling

    Naruto Uzumaki (and other Shinobi)

    Accomplishments

    • Defeated Naruto Uzumaki, Deidara, Orochimaru, Danzo, and Itachi Uchiha in a one on one
    • Graduated at the top of his class
    • Is the second person in Naruto history to bypass Gaara's defense
    • Outsmarted Deidara
    • Formed Hebi to locate Itachi
    • Tricked Danzo into revealing his own technique
    • Obtained the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and the Rinnegan
    • Assisted Naruto in defeating Madara, Kaguya, and Momoshiki
    • Tied with Naruto in their final battle

    Weaknesses

The only real notable weakness Sasuke has is that he cannot spam certain abilities over and over again, specifically the Rinnegan techniques, without having to eventually wait for a recharge time. And while Susano'o is an incredibly durable defense, it's not invincible and can be broken by a strong enough force.

    Summary

    Advantages
    • Has various elemental jutsus at his disposal
    • Amaterasu is hot enough to burn through other flames weaker than it
    • Is one of Naruto's most tactical fighters
    • Summoning Jutsus, Shadow Clones, and Animal Path grants Sasuke a variety of ways to outnumber his opponent in a one on one
    • The Sharingan can read and copy moves to a certain extent
    • The Sharingan protects Sasuke from mental based attacks
    • The Sharingan can read memories, which technically gives him a way to learn about his opponent's history and moveset
    • The Sharingan makes it hard for a person to sneak up on Sasuke
    • Genjutsus grants Sasuke a variety of ways to torment or trick an opponent's senses
    • The Rinnegan can detect invisible foes, even if they're on a separate plane of existence
    • The Preta Path can absorb energy
    • The Human Path's ability to remove souls is an instant kill move in most cases
    • The Naraka Path can repair Sasuke's body
    • The Deva Path and Shinra Tensei can push/pull a person
    • Can seal people inside of a Chibaku Tensei planetoid
    • Amenotejikara makes it hard for a person to hit Sasuke
    • Susano'o is an extremely durable defense

    Disadvantages
    • Sasuke needs to wait for a recharge time if he spams his abilities too much
    • Probably can't resist a good Linkin Park song

    Character Analysis: Avatar Aang

Links to Behind the Scenes Content

    Background

Long ago, a young man named Wan would be granted the power to bend all four elements to his will and go on to fuse with Raava, the Spirit of Light, creating a bond that would last for many centuries. This bond created the Avatar, a powerful bender that made it their personal mission to maintain peace and balance. Every time an Avatar dies, they are reincarnated into the next nation in the cycle and so on.

Ten thousand years later, after the death of Avatar Roku, the leader of the Fire Nation. Fire Lord Sozin, would go on to instigate a war that would last a century and launched a genocidal attack on the Air Nomads. While Sozin was successful in wiping out most of the Air Nomads, one managed to elude him and remained hidden in a ball of ice for the next century. The Air Nomad was Aang, the Last Airbender and current Avatar.

Before Sozin launched his attack, Aang learned of his true identity at the age of 12. When he found out that the higher ups of his village planned to separate him from his loved ones, Aang, along with flying bison Appa, ran away from home, got caught up in a storm, and crashed into the ocean. While it seemed that Aang and Appa were going to drown, Aang's Avatar Spirit activated and froze both in a ball of ice that prevented Aang or Appa from aging.

100 years later, Aang would be discovered by a young waterbender named Katara and her older brother Sokka, and the three of them would form a group that would go on to challenge the Fire Lord and put an end to the 100 year war.

    Weapons and Equipment

    Glider Staff
A glider staff uses to channel his airbending. With it, Aang can fly and fire gusts of wind from it. While Aang's original glider staff was destroyed near the beginning of Season 3, he received a new one during the Day of Black Sun.

    Abilities

    Airbending
The ability to manipulate air and Aang's preferred element to use in most confrontations. This bending style focuses on speed and evasion, forgoing a strong offense for a stronger defense. Aang tends to use his agility to tire out foes. With airbending, Aang can create powerful gusts of wind, mini tornadoes, and an orb of air to ride on top of like a scooter.

    Waterbending
The ability to manipulate water. Waterbending is a very adaptable and versatile form of bending that focuses on turning the enemy's strength against them. With waterbending, Aang can change water into ice, create water jets, tendrils, walls of ice, freeze others, etc.

    Earthbending
The ability to manipulate earth. Earthbending utilizes both a strong offense and defense. With earthbending, Aang can create stone walls, coat himself in earth to form earth armors, and toss boulders at enemies.

    Seismic Sense
A sub-skill of earthbending. Enables the user to detect vibrations in the ground to perceive objects, people, and other aspects of the environment. This allows Aang to fight, even while blinded.

    Firebending
The ability to manipulate fire. Firebending heavily focuses on offense over defense. With firebending, Aang can shoot fire blasts, streams, and waves from his hands, feet, and mouth. Firebenders can physically resist fire-based attacks.

    Lightning Redirection

A sub-skill of firebending. The ability to redirect electricity.

    Lavabending
The ability to manipulate molten lava. According to an Avatar Extra found in episode 1 of Book 2, "lavabending is a combination of both earthbending and firebending." Other lavabenders like Bolin and Ghazan have shown that they can phase-shift lava into earth and earth into lava. While Aang has never personally shown to be capable of using this ability, past Avatars like Kyoshi have shown this ability, meaning Aang can access this while in the Avatar State.

    Energybending
The ability to bend a person's life energy. Aang has used this ability to remove Ozai and Yakone's bending, as well as restore Korra's after Amon took it away.

    Avatar State
By channeling vast cosmic energies and knowledge of previous Avatars, Aang can tap into the Avatar State, a form in which Aang's bending prowess is greatly increased. While in the Avatar State, Aang can bend all four elements at once, has access to the knowledge and experience of past Avatars, and can replicate the skills of past Avatars he may not know naturally, like lavabending and flight.

The Avatar State can be triggered unconsciously in response to perception of mortal danger or when under emotional stress, utilizing it as a defense mechanism. However, thanks to being a fully realized Avatar, Aang can enter the state anytime he chooses. It is also implied that the Avatar State grants a boost in physicality as well, as seen when Korra broke platinum chains she could not break without the Avatar State.

    Feats

    Strength/Bending Strength

    Speed

    Durability

    Scaling

    • Completed King Bumi's challenges, which required a fair amount of problem solving
    • Defeated Zhao by using his temper against him
    • After fusing with the Koi Fish, took out an armada of firebenders
    • Won Earth Rumble VI

    Weaknesses

Aang is a pacifist that only resorts to brute force if necessary (albeit this would be limited to an extent in a DEATH BATTLE scenario) and killing him while in the Avatar State will result in the permanent end of the Avatar Cycle.
